Marathon High is a non-profit program for students to train for a 13.1-mile half marathon and to
help guide students to positive futures. The program also helps students build athletic skills,
healthy lifestyles, and social skills.
With over 400,000 thousand miles ran the program has been up and running for over 10 years.
Schools like Frank H. Peterson, Terry Parker, and Sandalwood all have the Marathon High
program available for students. It is free for students to participate in. Thousands of students
have already completed the half-marathon with the help and support of coaches, teachers, and
volunteers.
English 2 teacher and active member of Marathon High Mrs. Ward said, “I wanted to do
something different…I fell in love with the program and running.” She also stated that the
programs helped her achieve things she thought she was uncapable of, like running seven half
marathons. According to Mrs. Ward, “Marathon High is more than just a running club; they are a
family.”
